SPORTS IN OSAKA Osaka City Nagai Sports Center Osaka City Nagai Sports Center for Persons with Disabilities, located in the Nagai Park, is Japan's first sports facility for people with disabilities. Constructed in 1974, the center was established for the purpose of supporting disabled people through sports activities, so that they can have opportunities for health promotion and functional improvement, gain courage and confidence, and live fulfilled lives by increasing social participation. In the center are a table tennis room, equipped with tables for both regular table tennis and "sound table tennis" for the visually impaired; an indoor heated swimming pool (25 m/6 courses) equipped with an incline to enter the water; and a bowling room, where special equipment is installed providing audio and tactile considerations for people with sight disabilities. The center also provides sports classes for disabled children and their parents to enjoy various sports together, such as basketball, tennis, shuffleboard, and dance. Osaka Kadoma Sports Center Osaka Kadoma Sports Center, known by the nickname Namihaya Dome, opened in 1996 close by the Kadomaminami Station of the subway Nagahori-Tsurumiryokuchi Line. One of the major comprehensive indoor sports facilities in Japan, the centre features a main arena with a maximum capacity of 10,000, a heated sub pool that can be used year-round, a sub arena with a capacity of 2,000 that can be used as a gymnasium or an assembly hall, plus training rooms, multi-purpose halls, sports information corner, and more. |
